About Mathias Gillebo

Mathias Gillebo has a Master´s degree in opera from The Norwegian National Academy of Opera and a Bachelor´s degree in classical singing from The Norwegian Acadamy of Music.

With a repertoire spanning from the baroque era to contemporary works, Gillebo is a frequently engaged soloist for oratorios, passions and masses. He is a much sought-after Bach-Evangelist, as well as for works such as The Messiah by Händel, Die Schöpfung by Haydn, Requiem by Mozart, Stabat Mater and Petite messe solennelle by Rossini and Messa di Gloria by Puccini.

Since his debut at The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet as Daniel in Robin Hood, he has gone on to sing more roles at this opera house, including works by Vaage, Stäbler and Monteverdi. Among other roles are Nemorino in L´elisir d´amore by Donizetti, Volve in Haugtussa by Sundlisæter, Fartein Valen in Nenia by Habbestad and The Roasted Swan in Carmina Burana by Orff.

Gillebo is also a theologian with a Master´s thesis on how musical performance may affect philosophical thought. He is currently a Ph.D. research fellow at The Norwegian Academy of Music (NordART) with a project on voice, ethics and democracy: Singing Reality.
